Organic Vegetable Box Scheme - What's it all about?
Ripple Farm Organic's East Kent vegetable box delivery scheme aims to provide its customers with a seasonal range of fresh, organic vegetables and salad each week. The produce in the veggie boxes is 100% Organic, approx 85% Kentish and approx. 70% Home Grown. Boxes are delivered to designated drop off points in East Kent and door-to-door in Wye and surrounding villages. Customers can also collect direct from the farm or have a home delivery by cycle within Canterbury. We have a monthly newsletter for our customers to let them know what's in the box and recipe suggestions. We also host a farm walk every autumn so customers can see for themselves where all their lovely vegetables come from.
What's in the Vegetable Box?
We pack 3 sizes of vegetable box, small £8.50, medium £10.70 and large £14 and they generally contains 6–9 different seasonal items. (Reduce price by £1.20 if you collect direct from the farm at Crundale). The contents are chosen each week to give a balance of root crops, greens and salad although the weather places certain limitations on our choice. Seasonal produce means our customers can look forward to leeks in the autumn and winter and late summer tomatoes but don't expect them all-year round.
The farm includes polytunnels for growing tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, and basil in the summer months, and salad and herbs during the winter.
Year-round staples are potatoes, carrots and onions. Mixed salad bags feature for much of the year with lettuce frequent through the summer. Leafy greens, such as spinach, chard and kale are in the boxes most weeks. Customers can specify 2 exclusions for vegetables they don't like/can't eat and they can also add extras of some vegetables. Additionally, we offer organic eggs from Haresfield Farm, Wiltshire (all year) and organic apples from Little Knell Farm (autumn & winter).
Packaging
We ask that you return your box each week for re-use to minimise packaging. We use paper bags and cardboard punnets for some items, compostable bags for greens and poly bags for salad. Other than that all items are packed loose in your box. We re-use our own returned clean, poly bags for packing potatoes into.
