Yay, it finally rained and then it rained again. We’ve recorded around 30mm on all 3 growing sites during the last week of August and a lot of the crops look better already. Martin worker some ground early on in September, which came up 'lovely' and is now planted with our last trays of spinach, chard and kale.
And now that the rain has finally come, so have the weeds. Hopefully Martin can kill most of the new weeds whilst they are still tiny with the tractor mounted implements. We still have some hoeing and hand-weeding to do on other areas too.
The polytunnel that had lettuce in the spring is now planted up with parsley for the winter and we have several trays of claytonia growing ready to be planted into the polytunnel that had the cucumbers in during the summer.
The squash crop is easier to see now that the leaves have started to die back, and there are plenty of squash, just smaller than they would be if they'd had enough rain.
