Salad Days Apologies that we don't have much salad veggies to put in the veggie boxes this week, especially as it will be 'salad weather'. We transplanted 1,000s of plants on Saturday 27 June and have been hoping for a decent amount of rain since then so we can stop irrigating (a slow job, 2 rows of trickle tape at a time) but the showers we did get didn't add up to much, and the ground was soon dust dry again. Then, we can transplant ... Read more

We’ve got used to hot, dry spells in May, but this May has been particularly so. Our irrigation ... Read more

We’ve had Ciara, Dennis and Jorge to contend with during February. Our greens in the field are getting scarce but the mostly mild and wet winter means they haven’t suffered any significant frost damage. Other crops still in the field in February are carrots, parsnips, swede, leeks, PSB, cabbages, sprouts, radicchio and mustard salad leaves. Oh, and potatoes but we ... Read more

It's been lovely to have some sun this week, although it has been very cold in the mornings and we do have to wait an hour or two before we can go out harvesting. There was a stunning sunset on Monday evening framing one of my favourite trees (an oak tree in the hedge at Ripple Farm). Kale pesto – ... Read more

We’ve harvested all our onions now for winter storage, and made a start on the potatoes, but while it’s been so wet we’ve switched to harvesting squash. And thinking ahead to next season, our garlic seed has arrived – we plant this through beds of biodegradable plastic, usually in the Autumn. We're ... Read more

The rain towards the end of June was needed but a bit less would have been enough! With our light, chalky soils we were able to start planting again soon after but weed control was delayed for a week or so. We’re playing catch up on the weeds now as the ground is drying out fast again after the ... Read more

Time always seems to speed up at this time of year , a result of too many jobs to do I think. Planting is going well but we’re hoping for some rain this week before we get more crops in the ground.
