After a few frosty starts at the end of November, we are back to milder wet and windy weather so far in December. Mild is good for the leafy crops, although slowv can't drive so close to the crops when harvesting. And walking with an accululation of mud on your wellies becomes very slow too!
We are now harvesting parsnips, swede and celeriac as well as lots of leeks and leeafy greens.
Martin had a trip to London this week, taking part in an event to launch the ‘UK fruit and vegetable coalition’. The coalition includes the Soil Association, the Organic Growers Alliance, the Permaculture Association and many more. The event was held in the House of Commons and MPs were invited to join the organisers and some growers (including Martin) for a delicious, seasonal buffet lunch to learn about how the organic, agroecological horticulture sector can help deliver key environmental, health and resilience elements of the National Food Strategy. Ripple’s beetroot was used for one of the salad dishes as well as in beetroot brownies and both were delicious (there were leftovers so I got to taste them too!)
